I heard virtualizing Axapta 3.0 e.g. with VMWare is not recommended due to
performance issues. How is it with Axapta 4.0? Is it still not recommended to
install DB or AOS on virtual servers? Somebody has experience? What are the
reasons not to use virtualization? Are there any offical recommendations from
Microsoft or any documentation?

Hi,

All our pre-testing environment are running on VMware ESX 4 (vSphere 4)
There's no issue with it.
The only thing you may have is with Microsoft Support because they don't
support any products others then their own.
I'm using VMware since version 3.5 and I have never seen a failure yet.
We do not have an optimal configuration since the VMware server are using
S-ATA drivers. For production environment, VMware could be use with a SAN to
provide maximum spindles for the virtualized SQL Servers.
Of course, this is my experience with VMware and AX, feel free to test it
out...
